In 1995, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Special Operations Aviation was formed and assumed oversight of the USASOC Flight Detachment.

Two UH-60s were sent to USASOC from 160th SOAR (A) to support JFK Special Warfare Center and School. USSOCOM transferred one CASA to the UFD to support JFKSWCS in 1998. Two CASAs were assigned to the UFD to better support JFKSWCS and all USASOC units in Eastern and Central U.S. in 2003.  In 2004, UV-20 STOL aircraft were acquired to provide support to Robin Sage and Black Daggers.

The UFD personnel strength and Flying Hour program doubled to meet demands of USASOC and other USSOCOM units in 2006.  In 2013 the UFD became the USASOC Flight Company.
