Domestic violence play coming to Fort Bragg

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (USASOC News Service, Oct. 6, 2014) — As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, U.S.  Army Special Operation Command and Fix the Hurt, a national not-for-profit organization, will present, “Domestic Violence The Musical?” dealing with domestic violence on October 22 - 23 at Fort Bragg.

“Domestic or dating violence affects at least one in three women in the U.S. and is a serious national issue,” according to Linda King, Fix the Hurt founder and president.

There were 73 known domestic violence homicides in North Carolina in 2011, according to the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence.  Most of the victims were women, however 15 were children.

“Domestic Violence, The Musical?” combines lyrics, dialogue, and music to engage and teach audiences about this pervasive challenge and how it can be stopped and effectively dealt with,” according to King.

Performances will be on October 22 at 830 a.m. and 3 p.m., and on October 23 at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Pope Theater (DPTMS Training Annex), on Pope Army Airfield, Fort Bragg.

Soldiers, Family members, DA civilians and the general public are invited to all performances and admission is free.

“This nontraditional delivery will resonate with our audience and this musical presents the best domestic violence awareness and prevention training I have seen in my thirty years of military association”, said Frank Eng, USASOC Family Advocacy Specialist at Fort Bragg.  “Everyone who watches the performances does some introspection and can relate to some portion of the show.  The passion and compassion of the actors is unmatched and genuine, and you can’t help but be changed by what you see. “
