PRESS RELEASE: Soldiers to mentor top HS football players
FORT BRAGG, N.C. (USASOC News Service, Dec. 18, 2014) – Ten U.S. Army Special Operations Soldiers will be mentors to more than 90 of the nation's top high school football players for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl activities, Dec 29, 2014-Jan 3, 2015 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Activities throughout bowl week help connect these All-American athletes with Soldiers from around the country and provide a better understanding of what it takes and what it means to be an Army Strong Soldier.
The 10 USASOC Soldiers are:
- Cpl. Gregory B. Smith –75th Ranger Regiment
- Spc. Henry H. Remschel – 75th Ranger Regiment
- Sgt. Alfred N. Drago –8th Military Information Support Group
- CW2 Jason L. Boyd – Army Special Forces Group
- Sgt. 1st Class William T. Shearer- Army Special Forces Group
- Sgt. 1st Class Jesse A. Heeney – Army Special Forces Group
- Sgt. Nathaniel Baer – Army Special Operations Aviation Command
- Staff Sgt. William Gelden- Army Special Operations Aviation Command
- Sgt. 1st Class Larry Chartier – 96th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne)
- Sgt. Vergil Johnson – 6th Military Information Support Battalion
In addition to showcasing the nation's top high school football players, the All-American Bowl honors Soldiers who were deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.
