PRESS RELEASE: Special Forces Soldier dies of wounds

JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Wash. (USASOC News Service, March 22, 2013) – A U.S. Special Forces Soldier died March 21 as a result of wounds received from small arms fire on March 18 while returning from a patrol in Paktika Province, Afghanistan.

Sgt. 1st Class James Floyd Grissom, 31,was assigned to Co. A, 4th Bn, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) headquartered at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. He died at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany.

This was Grissom’s first deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan.  He had previously deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

Grissom is survived by his wife, parents and sister.
