Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies Military Fellowship Program

The Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies Military Fellowship Program provides a regionally focused, executive level educational experience to educate, connect and empower the Fellow to advance Asia-Pacific security. The Fellow will participate in the Advanced Security Cooperation Course (4 weeks); either the Comprehensive Crisis Management or Comprehensive Security Response to Terrorism Courses (4 weeks), and other selected Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies resident courses. Fellows will complete an advanced individual research project on a relevant security topic under the mentorship and guidance of a center faculty member.

In addition to these program requirements, Fellows may participate in regional conferences and outreach activities sponsored throughout the year by the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies. They will also have the opportunity to attend regionally-specific, security-related courses at Hawaii Pacific University or the University of Hawaii, East-West Center to complement their learning experience.

Fellows develop their enhanced understanding of transnational security challenges and security sector reform through study of geopolitics, governance, the impact of civil-military relations, culture and religion; interagency collaboration, International and Non-Government Organizations;. Through their coursework, individual research, critical thinking, and interaction with international participants in Center's resident programs, Fellows gain new insight and perspective into the security challenges found across the Asia-Pacific region. Depending on their service's requirements, Fellows may receive PME credit upon completion of the program. The course prepares Fellows to serve as senior military staff officers dealing with the complex security environment of the Asia-Pacific region.

This Fellowship is open to Active Component (AC) Special Forces, Psychological Operations, and Civil Affairs Majors (MAJs) and Lieutenant Colonels (LTCs).
