Command Frank GilliandCommand Sgt. Maj. Frank Gilliand was born on June 5, 1963 in Helmstedt, Germany. He reported to Basic Training at Fort Knox, Ky., in March 1982 with later attendance at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, for Advanced Individual Training. Command Sgt. Maj. Gilliand attended the Special Forces Medical Sergeant Qualification Course in 1985. During the course of his career, Command Sgt. Maj. Gilliand has held many duty positions including combat medic, medical detachment NCOIC, Special Forces senior medical sergeant, Special Forces assistant operations and intelligence sergeant, Special Forces operations sergeant, first sergeant, company sergeant major, battalion operations sergeant major and battalion command sergeant major. Command Sgt. Maj. Gilliand has deployed and conducted training or operations in countries throughout the Middle East and Asia. He has conducted combat deployments in support of Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom-Philippines and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Command Sgt. Maj. Gilliand’s military education includes Basic Airborne Course, Static Line Jumpmaster Course, Special Operations Medical Sergeant Course, Special Forces Operations and Intelligence Course, Combat Diver Qualification Course, Combat Diver Medical Technician Course, Combat Diver Supervisor Course, Primary Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course, First Sergeants Course, United States Army Sergeants Major Course and Keystone Course. Command Sgt. Maj. Gilliand holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Excelsior College. Command Sgt. Maj.
