Command Sergeant Major ArrowsmithCommand Sgt. Maj. Curtis D. Arrowsmith is currently serving as the Command Sergeant Major of the United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, the Army Special Operation’s Center of Excellence.
Command Sgt. Maj. Curtis D. Arrowsmith began his military service as an Infantryman in July of 1988. After Basic Training, Advanced Individual Training, Airborne School and Ranger Indoctrination Program he was assigned to the 2nd Ranger Battalion. In April 1992, Command Sgt. Maj. Arrowsmith was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
In 1995, Command Sgt. Maj. Arrowsmith completed the Special Forces Assessment and Selection and the Special Forces Qualification Course, joining the SF Regiment as an engineer sergeant in October 1996. Command Sgt. Maj. Arrowsmith’s first assignment was at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as a member of 2nd Bn., 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Operational Detachment Alpha 746. His follow-on assignment was with ODA 745, where he served as the senior engineer sergeant and intelligence sergeant. Command Sgt. Maj. Arrowsmith was then reassigned as the Operations Sergeant, ODA 753. He was then selected to serve as the 1st Sergeant, 2nd Battalion, Headquarters and Headquarters Company.
In 2006, he was selected for promotion to sergeant major and was assigned to the Operational Detachment Company, Support Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Command Sgt. Maj. Arrowsmith served as the company sergeant major in Afghanistan until departing to attend the Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Academy in Montgomery, Alabama.
Since 2007, he has served in a number of commands, including 7th SFG (A) 3rd SFG (A), 5th SFG (A) and the 1st Special Warfare Training Group (A).
Command Sgt. Maj. Arrowsmith’ s military education includes: All levels of the Non-commissioned Officer Education System, Basic Airborne Course, Special Forces Qualification Course, SERE Course, Special Forces Combat Divers Course, Static Line Jumpmaster Course, Special Forces Target Interdiction Course and the Combat Divers Supervisors Course.
Command Sgt. Maj. Arrowsmith’ s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with oakleaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with oak-leaf cluster,, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three oak-leaf clusters, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal four with oak-leaf clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (with Two Bronze Service Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab and the Special Forces Combat Diver Supervisors Badge. Foreign Awards include El Salvadorian, Colombian, Mexican, Uruguayan and German Airborne wings.
